The Intercontinental Derby — Istanbul

Istanbul has three giant football clubs. Two continents. One strait between them. Fenerbahçe plays on the Asian side, in Kadıköy — and from the top stand of their stadium, you can see the Bosphorus, the water that separates Europe from Asia. Galatasaray and Beşiktaş play on the European side — Beşiktaş's ground sits beside the Dolmabahçe Palace, minutes from Taksim Square. The biggest match in Turkish football — Fenerbahçe vs Galatasaray — is called the Intercontinental Derby. Because it literally is one. Fans cross continents by ferry to watch their team play.
